Former Terp Torrey Smith hosting celebrity basketball event at the Comcast Center

Former Maryland football star Torrey Smith will be hosting a celebrity basketball event at the Comcast Center on March 29th and you should definitely check it out.

While Maryland's men's basketball team might not be playing any March basketball, former Maryland great, Super Bowl Champions and current Baltimore Raven Torrey Smith has teamed up with the Redskins' Ryan Kerrigan to co-host the Battle of the Beltway All-Star Charity Basketball game on March 29th at the Comcast Center.

Ticket sales from the event will benefit the Torrey Smith Foundation and the Ryan Kerrigan Blitz for the Better Foundation. Visit TorreySmith.org or RyanKerrigan.org to purchase tickets, which are currently $15 but will increase to $20 this coming week.

"I started the game when I started the Torrey Smith Foundation, four years ago," Smith said about the Battle of the Beltway. "It was a fun way to give back to my hometown in Colonial Beach, Virginia."

Over the years, the event has grown in popularity, which meant this year the event had to switch venues to accommodate the additional demand for tickets to the game.

"But my high school gym only holds 2,500 fans. We've outgrown it," Smith said. So this year, the event was moved to the Comcast Center at the University of Maryland.

So who exactly will be playing in the event on March 29th? A lot of current NFL players, including former Terps AJ Francis and LaQuan Williams.

Players from across the National Football League will join in the charitable event, including Ravens Gerrard Sheppard, Haloti Ngata, Jacoby Jones, Lardarius Webb, Marlon Brown, Terrell Suggs and Tyrod Taylor. They will face Redskins DeAngelo Hall, Chris Neild, Niles Paul, Darryl Tapp, Nick Williams and Kirk Cousins. Other celebrity guests include Marcell Dareus (Bills), Greg Hardy (Panthers), T.Y. Hilton (Colts), AJ Francis (Dolphins), LeSean McCoy (Eagles), Anquan Boldin (49ers), LaQuan Williams, Big Tigger and Cleveland Browns Greg Little, Joe Haden, Josh Gordon and Tori Gurley. *

* Celebrities are subject to change.

Doors to the event open at 4:00 P.M. and there will be a number of activities for kids, including face painting, penny wars, and photo booths. But please note that unfortunately, there won't be opportunities for autographs at the event.

So if you're free next Saturday, come out to the Comcast Center and support a former Terp and a good cause.
