National Signing Day 2014: David Shaw signs with Maryland

Maryland officially adds the class's nose tackle.

David Shaw, a three-star defensive tackle, has signed with Maryland, after committing to the school in June.

Shaw, who played for Spring Grove Area (Pa.) Senior High School, chose the Terps over interest from Penn State, Pittsburgh, Connecticut and Temple, although his only claimed offer was from Maryland.

Listed at 6'4" and 270 pounds, Shaw is considered the 114th-best defensive tackle in the class and the 59th-best player in the state of Pennsylvania by the 247sports composite.

He joins a Maryland squad that needs the depth at defensive tackle in their 3-4 scheme -- Darius Kilgo has the starting job locked up, but Nate Clarke is the only other scholarship player at the position. After Kilgo graduates, Shaw and Clarke will likely battle it out for the starting position, and the true freshman may be able to take a redshirt this season to add on some weight.

Shaw is one of a group of players from Pennsylvania in the class, joining Brett Kulka and Tyler Burke.
