National Signing Day 2014: Three-star safety Antwaine Carter signs with Terps

Local talent adds depth to Maryland's secondary

A local safety out of Waldorf, Md. has backed up his February commitment, officially signing his letter of intent with the Terrapins.

Antwaine Carter Jr. committed on the spot after receiving an offer from the Terrapins in early February.

The 6'2" 185-pound defensive talent played cornerback, free safety and quarterback for Westlake High School, but was chosen by the Terps following a decommitment by Georgia safety Jordan Noil, making it evident where he will play. Noil and Carter have similar rating and stature, so Maryland seems to have made up for the loss.

Carter is considered a three-star recruit by 247sports composite, and his athleticism and body type should translate well to the college level, providing Maryland with their fourth secondary commitment in the class of 2014. He is considered the 139th-best safety in the class and the 41st-best prospect in the state of Maryland, one of a few local prospects in the class.
