National Signing Day 2014: Two-star defensive end Brett Kulka signs with Terps

Pennsylvanian officially joins Maryland for 2014.

Maryland football can officially chalk up the name Brett Kulka to its 2014 recruiting class. Kulka made his decision final to become a Terp with his signature on Wednesday. Kulka is now the first player to sign his intent for 2014 .

From General McLane (Edinboro, Pa.) High School, Kulka is considered a two-star prospect by the 247sports composite, which rates him as the 110th-best weak-side defensive end in the country and the 64th-best player in the state of Pennsylvania. His 6'5", 230 pound frame is considered his best asset by the website, alongside his size and point of attack. Kulka also received offers from Akron, Buffalo, Bucknell and Kent State.

Kulka is one of three players from Pennsylvania expected to sign in the class, joining fellow defenders Tyler Burke and David Shaw. You can watch highlights of him here:

Pete Volk, Testudo Times managing editor: Kulka is certainly a project, but he's got good size to build off of and could make a difference on the line in a few years. He'll have to redshirt this year and put on some weight, but he's very much a "potential grab."
