For the last time, Maryland will head to Cameron Indoor to face arch rival Duke in the teams' first and only scheduled meeting this season. Coming off of a disappointing loss at Virginia, Maryland is still in search of a marquee win to help its currently weak tournament resume, which a win in Durham would certainly boost. Duke will enter into this game on a two game winning stretch with victories over Wake Forest at home and Boston College on the road. The Blue Devils game with North Carolina was originally scheduled to be played on Wednesday, but due to weather conditions was postponed until next week.
This game will mark the end of one of the greatest rivalries in college basketball over the last 25 years. With so many memories, so much joy and so much agony, we can all look back fondly (and sometimes not so fondly) on the game all Maryland fans circled before the season started. Since there isn't a game between the Terps and Blue Devils in College Park this season, we can all remember the last time Duke made the trip to the Comcast Center. We can hope they will meet in the ACC tournament later this season and we can pray future Big Ten/ACC challenges will pit these two programs against each other, but even if that happens it will probably never be the same.
The numbers
Rankings and records: Maryland is unranked with a 14-11 record (6-6 and 8th in the ACC). Duke is ranked eighth in the AP Poll and ninth in the Coaches Poll, holding a record of 19-5 (8-3 and 3rd in the ACC). Last season, the Terps defeated Duke two out of the three times they played, with one win coming in dramatic fashion at home and the other in the quarterfinals of the ACC tournament. Duke leads the all-time series record 113-63.
Vegas: Maryland is a 13 point underdog.
