This will be the first football matchup between the Big Ten's two newest programs, who are separated geographically by less than 200 miles. The teams have identical 6-4 overall records entering this week. In conference play, the Terps are an even 3-3, while the Scarlet Knights are 2-4.
Maryland is coming off a 37-15 home loss to Michigan State this past weekend, at which time Rutgers beat Indiana, 45-23. Before Rutgers comes to College Park, the Knights will host that same Michigan State team this Saturday. The Terps will visit Michigan.
In its own inaugural Big Ten season, Rutgers has the eighth-ranked scoring offense and seventh-ranked total offense. To go with that, the Knights have the league's 10th-best scoring defense and 11th total defense. On all fronts, they've graded out near Maryland, so the regular season finale should at least be plenty competitive.
