The Maryland football team has another chance tonight for its first win against a ranked opponent since 2010. The 12th-ranked Michigan State Spartans are in College Park, set to meet the Terps for an 8 p.m. kickoff on the Big Ten Network.
Michigan State (7-2, 4-1 Big Ten) lost at home to Ohio State, 49-37, last week. Maryland (6-3, 3-2) had a bye after its 20-19 win at Penn State on Nov. 1. The teams are placed second and third in the Big Ten's East division, although neither has any real chance at catching the Buckeyes for a spot in the conference title game.
There is football to be played, but a few asides to this one: The Maryland athletic department is calling for a blackout, and former Maryland star Shawne Merriman is holding his 12th annual coat drive before the game and through the first quarter. As of midweek, the stadium was approaching a sellout.
We'll have updates from the media level at Byrd Stadium all night – here on thesite, on our primary Twitter handle and from my account. Pete Volk, Andrew Emmer, Dave Tucker and the rest of our staff won't lack for insight throughout the game, either. Thanks for being with us as the Terps try for their biggest win in years.

The atmosphere inside Byrd Stadium should be unique for a Maryland football game, and we're looking forward to covering it all. We'll have a recap up immediately after the game, and I'll have a longer gamer sometime after midnight.
Enjoy the game.
