The Big Ten announced its field hockey players of the week Tuesday afternoon and for the sixth consecutive week, the three player list included at least one Maryland Terrapin. This week's Maryland representative, Carrie Hanks, became the sixth different Terp to claim an award. Winning Freshman of the Week, Hanks became the second Maryland freshman to win the accolade joining Moira Putsch who has three awards to her credit.

Hanks, who came to Maryland from Niskayuna, NY, has been a steady performer in the Terrapins' midfield since early in the season. She scored Maryland's second goal in their 8-2 rout of Indiana last Friday. The score came when she put in the rebound of Maxine Fluharty's shot on a penalty corner. It marked the third time the freshman has found the back of the cage. Hanks has also picked up two assists making her one of five Terps with eight points on the season.

The Terrapins have claimed nine of the 27 possible weekly field hockey awards and no other squad has won more than three. Iowa, who Maryland plays Saturday afternoon, has had three different players win a weekly award. They are second to Maryland, the only team with six different players to win a weekly award.

When the Hawkeyes come to College Park for Saturday's contest, a Maryland win will give the Terps at least a share of the B1G Conference Championship. We will have more on that contest in our preview Friday afternoon.
