Terps in the pros: The latest on Maryland players in the NFL

We catch up with all of the former Maryland football players currently playing in the NFL.

Patrick Smith

Alright, here is your latest update on Maryland players in the NFL. Check it out.

Player NFL Team Position Notes
Lance Ball N/A RB Ball was cut by the Broncos last week and is still a free agent.
Bruce Campbell N/A OT Waived by Panthers on 8/25/13 and still currently a free agent.
Devonte Campbell N/A FB Waived by Atlanta on 8/31/13 and still currently a free agent.
Nolan Carroll Miami Dolphins CB Nolan continues to start for Miami, but quarterbacks are targeting his side of the field. He hopes to prove he can be a starter in the NFL.
Jon Condo Oakland Raiders Long Snapper As we said last time, when you're a long snapper, no news is good news. Condo continues to snap the ball a lot for the Raiders because, you know, they punt a lot. Continuing to do a great job.
Phil Costa Dallas Cowboys Center The play of  Mackenzy Bernadeau has allowed the Cowboys to not have to use Costa as much at center. But apparently he has been used recently as a fullback in short yardage and goal line situations. Still, Costa could end up inactive in the coming weeks, which is never good.
Vernon Davis San Francisco 49ers TE After catching 2 TDs against the Packers in week 1, Davis has been battling injury and sat out week 3. He was back in action last night, but hasn't been his normal, productive self. The 49ers have also been struggling a little on offense. Davis did catch a touchdown last night against the Rams, but has been limited to just 5 receptions for 38 yards in the last two games he's played in.
Kevin Dorsey N/A WR Dorsey was injury waived by the Packers and is done for the season.
Darin Drakeford N/A LB Drakeford was waived by the Kansas City Chiefs on 8/31/13 but later signed to their practice squad.
Moise Fokou Tennessee Titans LB Fokou is continuing to start at MLB for Tennessee but recently accused Chargers players of trying to break his arm last week, which caused him to react and drew an unnecessary roughness penality.
A.J. Francis New England Patriots DT After the New England Patriots put in a waiver claim on Francis, he was later cut by New England but re-signed and joined their practice squad, where he remains today.
Matt Furstenburg Baltimore Ravens TE Furstenburg remains on the Ravens' practice squad.
Jared Gaither N/A

OT After Gaither was cut by San Diego, he has continued to remain unemployed. Maybe this is the reason why. It's probably also why Gaither wasn't resigned by Baltimore.
Dan Gronkowski N/A

TE Dan was cut by the Browns and remains a free agent.
Erin Henderson Minnesota Vikings LB Erin continues to start for the Vikings and is listed as probable for this week's game against Pittsburgh in London. I selfishly hope he has a great game against the Steelers and sacks Big Ben many, many times.
Darrius Heyward-Bey Indianapolis Colts WR Heyward-Bey is still working on developing a relationship on the field with QB Andrew Luck, but is moving in the right direction after hauling in five passes for 59 yards last week, which were the most by a Colts player.
Shaun Hill Detroit Lions QB Shaun Hill continues to be the backup in Detroit and prior to last week's game against the Redskins, Hill tried to simulate RGIII's mobility. 3rd string QB Kellen Moore had this to say about Hill: "Shaun supposedly ran the option in college," Moore said. "Supposedly. I've only seen the 32-year-old version of Shaun since I got here. Somehow, all those highlights avoided YouTube and Google image searches."
I can confirm that Hill did in fact run the option at Maryland his senior year. And yes I looked for highlight films of that but couldn't find any. I did find this one for you all to enjoy. Maybe we can beat State again this year to clinch the ACC Atlantic?
D'Qwell Jackson Cleveland Browns LB D'Qwell continues to do well in Cleveland, leading the Browns in tackles last week vs. Minnesota. He also had this to say about his head coach's decision to make gutsy play calls.  but Cleveland fell to Miami on Sunday.
Nick Novak San Diego Chargers K

Novak was 1/2 in field goal attempts last week, but one of them was blocked and the Chargers lost another game in the final seconds.

Maybe Novak should just show this highlight over and over to Phillip Rivers, so he can see what you have to do to close out and win a close game.

Adam Podlesh Chicago Bears P Podlesh didn't have to punt last week against the Steelers, because Pittsburgh is terrible this year.
Da'Rel Scott New York Giants RB Scott got 1 carry for the Giants, as they tried their hardest to impersonate West Virginia's offensive efficiency against Maryland in route to a 38-0 shut out by the Panthers. Continuing with that analogy, C.J. Brown is Cam Newton.
Torrey Smith Baltimore Ravens WR Torrey has done well taking over as the #1 receiver and is currently on pace to finish the year with over 1,400 receiving yards. finished the game with a team-high 92 yards on 4 receptions.
Randy Starks Miami Dolphins DT Starks recaptured his starting job because of an injury suffered by another DT in week 3.
Joe Vellano New England Patriots DT Vellano finished with one tackle for New England last week.
Edwin Williams N/A OT Williams was cut by the Bears recently and is currently a free agent.
LaQuan Williams N/A WR LaQuan reached an injury settlement with the Ravens. There is a chance the Ravens could bring him back in the future.
Josh Wilson Washington Redskins CB Josh sees the Redskins 0-3 start as a test of the team's character. Regardless, they really need to improve on the defensive side of the ball, where they're currently on track to be historically bad.
Will Yeatman Miami Dolphins OT Yeatman remains the backup left tackle in Miami.

As we noted last time, Kenneth Tate, Madieu Williams, and Kevin Barnes are all free agents right now. Anyone else?
