Maryland Football 2013: Looking at How the Terps' Opponents Fared in Week 1

This season, following each week of college football, we'll take a look at how Maryland's opponents fared the previous week, where they stand record wise, and note any other pertinent information that happened to the remaining opponents during their games that week.

Old Dominion: (0-1) (0-0)

The Monarchs, Maryland's next opponent, gave East Carolina a run for their money before falling to the Pirates towards the end of the game. They appear to be able to score on offense, but it appears that their defense is still a work in progress. We'll have more on Old Dominion in the coming days.

UConn: (0-1) (0-0)

Randy Edsall's former school lost to Towson this week. At home. By 15. Towson is a good FCS team, but still, this shows you were UConn stands at the moment. The Huskies next opponent is actually Maryland (they have a bye week this week), which means the Huskies will have 16 days between games. Hopefully they won't be super pissed when we play them on September 16th.

West Virginia: (1-0) (0-0)

Our favorite football rivals actually won this past week, but tried their hardest to lose to William and Mary, eking out a 24-17 win over the tribe. Should be a good season for them in the Big 12. Maryland faces the Mountaineers in Baltimore on September 21st.

Florida State: (0-0) (0-0)

The Seminoles actually play their first game of the season tonight, opening against new ACC foe Pitt. But if I had to guess, I think FSU WILL LIKELY win this game. It won't be a blowout, but it won't be close either. Here is Tomahawk Nation's preview of the game. The Terps play at FSU on October 5th.

Virginia: (1-0) (0-0)

The Cavs opened their season at home with a comeback win against BYU on Saturday. The game was delayed for over two hours due to a severe thunderstorm, but they were finally able to resume and finish it. The Hoos face Oregon at home next week. Maryland faces our rival to the south at home on October 12th.

Wake Forest: (1-0) (0-0)

Wake took care of business against Presbyterian on Saturday, winning 31-7. They will take on BC next week and face Maryland in Winston-Salem on October 19th.

Clemson: (1-0) (0-0)

Clemson had the biggest win in the ACC on Saturday, downing #5 Georgia at home, 38-35. The Tigers were a consensus top-10 team, but this will elevate them even higher and get their name mentioned in the national title conversation, until they ultimately pull a Clemson and lose to a team like Southern Wyoming at Green Bay State. Or NC State. Their next opponent is South Carolina State and they face Maryland in College Park on October 26th.

Syracuse: (0-1) (0-0)

The Orange, one of the ACC's newcomers, narrowly lost to Penn State, 23-17 on Saturday. The Orange will now travel to Northwestern to take on a very talented B1G team. They face Maryland at home on November 9th, which is the week after the Terps have a bye.

Virginia Tech: (0-1) (0-0)

The Hokies were dominated by Alabama, 35-10.  Alabama is good, y'all, but Virginia Tech still didn't play well. The Hokies face Western Carolina next and take on Maryland November 16th in Blacksburg.

Boston College: (1-0) (0-0)

The Eagles narrowly defeated Villanova on Saturday (#GoACC), yet another ACC school that struggled against an FCS team. BC takes on Wake this Saturday and faces Maryland on November 23rd in College Park.

NC State: (1-0) (0-0)

The Wolfpack did what you're supposed to do against an inferior opponent and blew out Louisiana Tech, 40-14. They take on Richnmond next and close out the regular season at home against Maryland.
