Chris Jones commits to Wisconsin

Double update: It is now official.

Three-star 2014 wide receiver Chris Jones has reportedly committed to Wisconsin Wednesday, choosing the Badgers over an offer from Maryland, among others, via IMS.

The 6'3", 190 pound prospect goes to local powerhouse DeMatha, and would have been the Terps' first commitment from the school since cornerback Michael Williams in 2011. Williams never played a down at Maryland, deciding instead to pursue track and field. The last DeMatha commit to actually play for Maryland was offensive lineman Pete DeSouza, who was a part of the 2009 class.

Jones is rated a three-star prospect by all four recruiting agencies, and the 247composite rankings rate him as the ninth-best player in Maryland, the 51st-best receiver in the nation, and the 384th-best prospect in the country.

The Terps' still have just one commitment among the top 25 players in the state -- Good Counsel defensive end Jesse Aniebonam (ranked second). Maryland is still very much in with some of the available prospects in the class -- like Jones's high school teammate Brock Ruble, a 6'8", 325 pound beast of an offensive tackle. We will have to see if Jones's commitment has any effect on Ruble's decision.

Something else to look out for -- what this means in the recruitment for Juwann Winfree, a four-star wide receiver scheduled to make his visit to Maryland this weekend.
