McDougle, Whitfield named ACC players of the week

Two Terps receive weekly accolades.

Dexter McDougle and Marcus Whitfield have received ACC player of the week honors after dominating defensive performances in Maryland's 32-21 win at Connecticut Saturday.

McDougle, the defensive back of the week, set a career-high with two interceptions in the game, and returned one for a 49-yard score. Both came at key times for the Terrapins. It was the cornerback's last collegiate game, as he suffered a shoulder injury later on that will cause him to miss the rest of the season.

Whitfield, the linebacker of the week, continued his breakout year with a career-high three sacks, including one for a safety. Whitfield had already set his season career-high for sacks prior to the game. He is the first Terp with three sacks in a game since Shawne Merriman. Whitfield currently leads the nation with 4.5 sacks.

Stefon Diggs was named ACC receiver of the week in Week 2.
