The Terps pick up a local star early in the 2014 process.

Maryland continued their recent local recruiting renaissance Friday, as four-star 2014 defensive end Jesse Aniebonam chose the Terps over Clemson, North Carolina, Notre Dame and Virginia Tech.

Aniebonam is a consensus four-star recruit, and is considered one of the best prospects in the state of Maryland. Rivals, 24/7 and ESPN all list Aniebonam as the second best prospect in the state, behind offensive tackle Damian Prince, who is also considering Maryland. Rivals ranks Aniebonam as the 98th-best prospect in the country, 24/7 has him at #102, and ESPN has him 95th.

Maryland had a run of four/five-star prospects from Good Counsel in their 2012 recruiting class, with Stefon Diggs, Wes Brown and Mike Madaras all committing and contributing in a major way in their true freshman campaigns. Aniebonam will also join former Good Counsel players Zach Dancel and Andrew Stefanelli on Maryland's roster.

Aniebonam is Maryland's second four-star prospect of the 2014 class, joining quarterback Will Ulmer. He is the ninth commitment of the class, and the second from Maryland.

Aniebonam will probably slot in at the left end position, just due to the presence of Quinton Jefferson on the right side. Current left end starter Keith Bowers will be a senior in Aniebonam's first season with the Terrapins, with back-up Zeke Riser graduating this year. Aniebonam should compete for a starting spot from day one in College Park.

We have updated our scholarship chart to include Aniebonam.
