Today we begin with the incoming defensive linemen.

Malik Jones, Freshman, Defensive End

Stats:

Height: 6'4"

Weight: 240

Twitter: @lrllik_52

Collegiate Stats: N/A

High School Stats (Senior Year): 70 tackles, 18 sacks

Recruiting Ratings: Three stars by 24/7 (#22 in Maryland, #56 OT), two stars by Rivals, Scout, and ESPN (#40 in Maryland, #153 OT)

High School: Dunbar

Hometown: Baltimore, Md.

High School Highlights:

How'd he get to College Park?

Malik Jones played both sides of the line at Dunbar, which has long been a pipeline for West Virginia (hi, Tavon Austin). In fact, of the 48 prospects from Dunbar in the Rivals database (which dates back to 2002), Jones is the only recruit to commit to Maryland.

Jones put together some accolades while at Dunbar, and he was named to the Small School All-State team as well as the Baltimore Sun's second team All-Met squad. He played in the Crab Bowl last year, and while at Dunbar won three straight state championships.

Jones was also offered by UTEP and Rutgers, but was looking at the home school all the way.

Nickname:

"Malik B"

Career Highlight:

Committing to Maryland.

Dream Season:

Putting on 20 or 30 pounds while excelling on the squad team.

2013 Prospectus:

It would be an unlikely scenario where we would see Malik Jones play this season - the kid has talent, but he needs to put on significant size before competing at the Division I (and B1G) level.

Maryland's defensive line is significantly depleted after last season, and Jones will look to slot in at the slimmer defensive end position with Quinton Jefferson (6'4", 270), Roman Braglio (6'3", 250) and Ty Tucker (6'2", 260). Jefferson is a sophomore and Braglio is a freshman, so those are two guys who Jones is going to have to compete with down the line to get any sort of playing time (besides special teams action, which could happen sooner rather than later).

Up Next:

Our next player shares his first name with one of the main characters of the most 90's of all sitcoms.

Scaletta gets number four.
