High School Highlights:

How'd He Get to College Park?

Ross and Maryland seemed like perfect choices for each other the second his older brother, Brandon, committed to the Terps himself a few years ago. Ross had family in College Park and had the opportunity to go to a competitive local school, while Maryland was overhauling its recruiting plan to emphasize speed and athleticism, Ross's biggest traits. (As a sophomore, he was the fastest player at an NUC east coast combine that included players who would end up as five-stars.) He ended up as the Terps' first commitment of the cycle, verballing in January.

Nickname:

Jarrett "The Boss" Ross

Career Highlight:

Being named first team All-Delaware as a senior at cornerback

Dream Season:

Impressing Maryland's staff in practice enough to burn his redshirt and see snaps as a nickel or dime back

2013 Prospectus:

Like most of Maryland's freshmen defensive backs, Ross has an outside shot at immediate playing time, but the smart money is on a redshirt year to help his development for a year or two down the line, when the position will be wide open. Like most freshmen at cornerback, his mechanics will need tightening up and he'll benefit from cutting his teeth against elite athletes in practice. Anything can happen on this team if you have blazing speed and if you're smart, though, and Ross possesses both qualities.

Next Up:

Our next player was his state's Gatorade Player of the Year ... as a junior.
