The hits keep coming for Maryland on the recruiting trail, as 2014 three-star offensive tackle Jared Cohen has reportedly re-opened his commitment, according to Terrapin Times. The link is behind a paywall, but the free summary says that much.
Cohen was the Terps' first commitment in the 2014 class, committing in February 2013. The 247sports composite rates him as a three-star, ranking him as the 23rd-best guard in the class and the tenth-best player in the state of Maryland, and people around the team are very high on him as a potential future starter.
At 6'3" and 275 pounds, Cohen hails from the McDonogh School -- he's teammates with Maryland commit Josh Woods. At the time of his commitment, Cohen had no other offers, and none have been reported since, although he had also received interest from Duke, Iowa, NC State, North Carolina, Penn State, Rutgers and Virginia. Multiple reports say he is scheduled to visit Penn State in late January.
Maryland has shown an increased focus on the offensive line in this class, and recently brought in three-star tackle Sean Christie. It is possible that with the commitment of Christie and the possible upcoming commitment of five-star tackle Damian Prince, Cohen saw a crowded offensive line grouping with Larry Mazyck, Derwin Gray, Brendan Moore and the host of young players already at the school.
It's curious timing, with signing day about a month and change away, and it's hard to imagine Maryland is out of the running here. We'll keep tabs on his recruitment as the period comes to a close.
