Maryland women's basketball: Alyssa Thomas named ACC Player of the Week

Maryland senior forward Alyssa Thomas has been named the ACC Player of the Week in women's basketball after another pair of dominating performances. This is Thomas' second player of the week selection this season and the ninth in her career. Coupled with her seven Rookie of the Week honors the award marks the sixteenth weekly award for the Harrisburg native - the most for any player in Terrapin women's basketball history.

Though she played only twenty minutes, Thomas started the week with 13 rebounds, 12 points, and 11 assists in Maryland's 105-49 rout of Siena. The achievement marked the third time in her illustrious career she recorded a triple double. Marissa Coleman is the only other Terrapin women's player to achieve the feat and only Greivis Vasquez and Derrick Lewis have done that on the men's side.

Thomas capped the week Saturday night dropping in 18 points and pulling down 10 rebounds in only 17 minutes of action against Delaware State. Since the opening game at South Florida where she played only ten minutes due to foul trouble, Thomas has reached double digit points and double digit rebounds in each of the ten subsequent games. Last season, the player we fondly call AT had twenty double-doubles.

Thomas is the reigning two-time ACC Player of the Year and is coming off a season in which she became the only player in NCAA or WNBA history to average over 18 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists over an entire season while being the only player in the NCAA to finish in the top thirty-five an all three categories. Through the first eleven games of the current schedule, the preseason ACC Player of the Year leads Maryland in both scoring and rebounding averaging 16.6 points and 11.3 rebounds per game. She's third on the team in assists at 3.3 per game
