Maryland starting point guard Roddy Peters has been named the ACC Rookie of the Week, the school announced in a release.
Peters took the starting job before Maryland's game against Boston College, and helped lead the Terps to wins over the Eagles and Florida Atlantic. He averaged 8.0 points and 4.0 assists per game during the stretch, and scored a career-high 14 points against Boston College -- likely the determining factor in his winning the award.
The freshman leads the Terps in assist rate by a healthy margin, with 31.3% of Maryland baskets that occur while Peters is on the floor coming off of his passes. That mark puts him 78th in the nation, and next best on the team is Dez Wells, at 16.2%.
Peters is also averaging one steal per game, and is recording steals on 2.9% of opponent possessions while he is on the floor. That ranks second on the team among qualifying players (right behind Nick Faust at 3.0%) and third among all players (Varun Ram is at 5.1%).
