Maryland recruiting: Brock Ruble and Marcus Applefield set to make decisions Friday

The Terps also extend four new scholarship offers.

Bob Donnan-USA TODAY Sports

Update: Ruble has committed to Florida State.

We'll get to the (semi-)big decision day in a moment, but first, basketball:

Three-star 2015 guard Donovan Mitchell received an offer from Marquette and is now being courted by Indiana.

Now, for football:

Three-star 2014 offensive linemen Brock Ruble and Marcus Applefield are set to decide Friday -- Ruble at 2 p.m. ET and Applefield at 2:30 p.m. ET. The Terps are in the running for both prospects, and would likely be willing to take both and Damian Prince.

Ruble, from DeMatha, is down to Maryland, NC State and Florida State, while Applefield, from Florida, is choosing between Rutgers, Purdue and Maryland. The 247sports Crystal Ball has Ruble as a slight NC State lean and Applefield as a heavy Rutgers lean, but the Scarlet Knights recently fired their offensive line coach. I actually think Maryland has a better chance with Applefield (due to the Rutgers situation) than Ruble (due to the coaching staff's apparently fractured relationship with DeMatha), but from what I hear the staff thinks they're in good position with both.

The Terps offered 2014 four-star California quarterback Brad Kaaya, who is committed to Miami. We talked about what it means for Will Ulmer here. They have also started recruiting three-star Minnesota quarterback Ricardo Johnson III, but as far as we can tell no offer has been extended yet.

Maryland has also offered 2014 prep school wide receiver Rico Johnson, who signed with Georgia last year. This is also an interesting decision, as Juwann Winfree was promised the only receiver slot in the class.

2014 three-star defensive end JaWhuan Bentley, Ruble's teammate at DeMatha, has committed to Purdue.

2014 four-star wide receiver commit Juwann Winfree has been selected to play in the 2014 Offense-Defense All-American Bowl.

2014 five-star cornerback Jalen Tabor took his official visit to Florida and received an in-home visit from Alabama.

Maryland has offered 2015 four-star defensive end Josh Sweat, one of the top players in Virginia.

The Terps have also offered 2015 three-star inside linebacker Wyatt Cook, who is teammates with Maryland commits Jared Cohen and Josh Woods at the McDonogh School.
