How'd She Get to College Park?
Tierney was the number five forward and number 22 overall player in ESPN.com's HoopGurlz rankings. She finished her high school career with 2,309 points and made AP's All-State team all four years. She came to Maryland after considering Rutgers, Florida, NC State, Vanderbilt, Iowa State and Delaware.
Career Highlight:
Tierney scored 17 points in her ACC debut in a 79-55 rout of Virginia in December 2012.
Dream Season:
Tierney will shake of the rust from having missed the last ten games or so of her freshman season. She'll be the principal backup to Alyssa Thomas and will pose a problem for opposing defenses with her ability to stretch the floor. She'll improve on her freshman numbers averaging ten and six.
2013 Prospectus:
Tierney's a versatile wing player who had started to come into her own before injuries and illness prematurely ended her freshman year. She's solid in just about every phase of the game. She can score from inside or outside, rebound and defend and runs the floor well. However, the wing is another position where Maryland is fully loaded starting with Alyssa Thomas. She will get playing time behind Thomas and her versatility gives Coach Frese a lot of options. In addition to Thomas, Pfirman will find herself competing for playing time with freshmen Shatori Walker-Kimbrough and A'Lexus Harrison.
