How'd She Get to College Park?

Essence came to College Park as a shy lightly recruited player. She was named as an all-state player in her senior season and helped her team to a final four berth in the Tournament of Champions. She chose Maryland after considering Pittsburgh, Delaware State, Rutgers and Seton Hall.

Career Highlight:

Essence equaled or set her career highs in points (10) and blocks (4) and minutes (21) in a December 2011 game against Delaware State.

Dream Season:

A talented front line will likely keep Essence out of the regular rotation. A dream season for her would be to see plenty of action during the non-conference schedule and to leave College Park having made a dunk in a game.

2013 Prospectus:

Coming off an ACL injury that sidelined her for her senior season, Essence elected to return to the Terps as a graduate student. Essence will likely see sparing minutes in a crowded front court rotation. She will be able to draw on her experience as a member of the 2012 ACC Championship team to mentor the younger players through Maryland's final ACC season.
