Brene Talks About Being a Terp:
How'd She Get to College Park?
The only member of the 2011-2012 class, Brene (pronounced Breh-NAY) was a Washington Post All-Met as a junior who made an early commitment to the Terps. Despite missing her senior year due to a knee injury, "Bones" was still ranked as the 70th best player in her class by ESPN's HoopGurlz. She chose Maryland over Miami, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Georgetown, Temple and James Madison.
Career Highlight:
In only her third collegiate game Brene led the Terps with 26 points on 10 of 15 shooting including 4 of 6 three pointers in an 86-42 rout of Towson.
Dream Season:
Brene will have used her year of rehab to adjust to the speed of the college game and improve her (respectable for a freshman) 1.25 assist to turnover ratio. Though she will occasionally stretch the floor with her three point shooting ability, she should be among the ACC leaders in assists given the diversity of Maryland's scoring options.
2013 Prospectus:
Returning from an ACL injury, Brene will likely share point guard duties with sophomore Chloe Pavlech and highly rated freshman Lexie Brown. Her ability to stretch the floor with her long range shooting should allow Coach Frese to occasionally rotate her to the off guard and effectively have two point guards on the floor simultaneously a move that could be helpful as NCAA women's basketball institutes the ten second rule.
