The Terrapins have come to play on Homecoming day, as they lead the visiting No. 9 Clemson Tigers 7-6 after one quarter.
Maryland went three-and-out on their first drive, as two runs by Albert Reid went a combined six yards before Caleb Rowe's bullet of a pass went through Malcolm Culmer's hands.
Tajh Boyd went to work immediately against the Terrapin defense, completing five of his first six passes for 37 yards (while Roderick McDowell ran for 20 more), but Maryland held strong in the red zone, forcing a 31-yard field goal by Chandler Catanzaro.
Maryland scored on their next drive, when Caleb Rowe found Levern Jacobs over the middle on a slant route. Jacobs had an infinite amount of open space ahead of him, and took the third down toss 71 yards for a touchdown.
On Clemson's next drive, Maryland seemed to stop the Tiger offense just outside of the red zone, when Roderick McDowell was cornered in the backfield on third-and-long on a draw play. Poor tackling by the Terrapins allowed McDowell to escape for the first down, and Will Likely was called for pass interference in the end zone to set up another opportunity. Back-to-back stops by the Maryland defense made it third-and-goal, and Cole Farrand and Sean Davis broke through with a huge sack. Catanzaro hit a 29-yard field goal, cutting the Maryland lead to 7-6.
Maryland moved down the field on their next drive, thanks to back-to-back first down completions from Caleb Rowe -- to Albert Reid and Nigel King. Later in the drive, Rowe found Levern Jacobs for a 22-yard gain, bringing the ball to the 32-yard line. That's where the Terps will start in quarter number two.
