Linebacker Yannick Cudjoe-Virgil out for the season with injury

The Terrapins lose one of their key defensive components.

Maryland linebacker Yannick Cudjoe-Virgil will miss the remainder of the season with a pectoral injury suffered in the Terps' 27-26 win over Virginia, the school announced Monday.

After the game, Edsall called Cudjoe-Virgil "the best pass rusher on the team," and he had excelled coming off the edge in his first season of action with the school. Through five games, he had 18 tackles with three-and-a-half for a loss and three sacks, and even nabbed an interception.

Cudjoe-Virgil was Maryland's backup at the WILL linebacker position, behind Marcus Whitfield, but Edsall often used both in specialized pass-rushing packages at the same time.

The junior transferred from Division II Seton Hill University after the 2011 season, redshirting last year while sitting out due to NCAA rules.

True freshman Yannick Ngakoue, the highly-touted freshman who has a tackle and an interception this season, will likely take over Cudjoe-Virgil's position on the depth chart.
