Turgeon going in-home with Smotrycz on Friday, visiting on the 13th
So I guess this is real, then. I'm in. He's still adding schools (Kansas State, Clemson are recent additions) so he doesn't have it narrowed down yet, but it's pretty clear that there's interest in this moving quickly if he's already doing in-homes and taking visits.
I know not everyone is on-board the E-Trizzy Train, but even if he's not a lockdown defender/particularly prolific rebounder I'm down adding him solely for what he brings offensively. Charles Mitchell and Shaquille Cleare can bang in the post, Pe`Shon Howard usually punches above his weight, and Jake Layman's no softy, either. Point is, the roster can accomodate it, and what he brings on the other end - a long 4 who can step outside and stretch the defense - is pretty rare and useful for any team, especially one that's going to function on half-court efficiency as much as Turgeon's are likely to.
Capital Classic rosters announced, bunch of Terps in
Seth Allen, Sam Cassell Jr., Damonte Dodd, Charles Mitchell, Shaquille Cleare all named to the U.S. All-Stars team. No Layman, unfortunately. Game's on April 21 at TC Williams. Let us know if you go.
Also: the Capital All-Stars are going to get rolled.
Terrell Stoglin named Maryland's MVP, Mosley grabs three awards
Nothing unexpected in there, really. But I wish Turgeon was the one who decided the MVP award, instead of a team vote, just to see if he'd really give it to Terrell. C'mon, you know it'd have been fun to watch the indecision on that one. Doesn't matter, of course: it was a team vote, and it happened exactly as it should've.
Sean Mosley, FWIW, got the Greivis Vasquez Award for most inspirational and Nick Faust got the Juan Dixon Award for most improved. I can see both.
Obi Enechionyia drawing interest from Terps - BSun
Chalk up another semi-elite local '14 recruit. Dwayne Morgan, Phil Booth, Melo Trimble, Chris Tang (kinda), and now Obi are all established names, and then there are guys like Dion Wiley, John Crosby, and Allen Costley who all have good potential.
2014 is the year, folks.
Gonzaga DB Devin Butler commits to Notre Dame
Had Maryland in his final group, but ended up at ND. Not a huge deal with Parker committed earlier.
Recruitniks, rejoice: AAU season has returned
And it kicks off with the Under Armour Grind Sessions at Coolidge in D.C. Eric Bossi takes a look at a few questions the event will hopefully answer, including the progression of the aforementioned Morgan. Not hugely Maryland-related, but I'm sure the recruiting junkies among us - and you know who you are - will be pleased to hear the good news.
