Loyola-Maryland captures first MAAC title since '94 - chicagotribune.com
I wanted to give a shout out to Loyola (MD), who won the MAAC tournament last night and earned just their 2nd NCAA Tournament berth. In case you don't know, Loyola is coached by former Maryland assistant Jimmy Patsos, who was basically Gary's right hand man for years. I met Patsos when I was traveling with Maryland's pep band after we lost an NCAA tourney game. We were in a gift shop and he'd just found out he'd been hired by Loyola. We were buying souvenirs and Patsos walked up and paid for all of them for us. It was awesome. He turned a one win team into an NCAA team, which is no easy task and which took several years. Oh, and the person who hit the game clinching free-throw? Former Terp Shane Walker. Very happy for all of them.
