Five days until kickoff! Are you going to be there? I will be. Maybe we can do an unofficial Testudo Times meet up? Let me know if you'll be there in the comments below.
Football Preview 2011: New coach has Terps thinking ACC title - Carroll County Times: Maryland Terrapins
Nice preview piece of the football team by the Carroll County Times.
Two Terps suspended for season opener - Washington Times
D.J. Adams and offensive lineman Cody Blue are suspended for the Miami game because of a violation of team rules. Guess that's why D.J. wasn't on the depth chart. So Miami isn't the only team who will be without some of their best players. RB D.J. Adams, who scored 11 TDs last year, and offensive lineman Cody Blue will be suspended for the Miami game.
Miami-Florida (0-0) at Maryland (0-0) - KansasCity.com
The Kansas City Star previews the MD-Miami game and predicts a 23-17 MD victory.
University of Maryland Athletics Deal of the Day | Groupon Washington DC
Got tickets to the Miami game yet? If not, Groupon is doing a deal right now for the game. $22 for a ticket and tshirt. Not bad.
Texas A&M plans to leave Big 12 by July 2012 - Washington Times
Well, Texas A&M is officially leaving the Big 12 for presumably the SEC. I've said this many times before, but if the ACC wants to survive this game of musical chairs, they best be proactive and be prepared to get 2-4 more teams to join the conference. Swofford better go out and grab Pitt, Syracuse, UConn and WVU before the SEC grabs FSU or Va Tech. If we lose either of those, I think the ACC is in deep doo doo.
Brenda Frese signs extension through June 2017
Good. I know Brenda catches a lot of crap, mostly because she makes a lot of money for a women's coach, but that's not her fault. She's still an elite coach. -Ben B.
My take - Congrats to coach Frese. I get to talk to her when I cover women's bball games and she couldn't be a nicer person and she cares deeply about Maryland. Well deserved.
More Len Love from Ballin' is a Habit
"All he (Turgeon) needs out of Len is for him to rebound, block some shots and be able to hold his own defensively in the post, and Maryland becomes a different team." Well, duh. I still don't think this puts us in the the tournament but at least now we've got some hope, right? -Ben G.
Terps on defensive end recruit's radar - Carroll County Times: Local
According to Jeff Weachter, Noah Spence's coach at Bishop McDevitt High (Pa.), Spence, a defensive end prospect rated as a five-star recruit by Rivals.com, is strongly considering the Terrapins. Earlier this month, Spence, who has received more than 40 scholarship offers, announced Maryland as one of the final seven schools he is considering, along with Florida, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Notre Dame, Penn State and Southern California.
Myself and Ben B. have said it many times - Spence is a game changer and if Edsall landed him, it would be an amazing boom for Maryland, especially in recruiting.
Recruiting Report: Gilman's Cyrus Jones taking his time - Matt Bracken - baltimoresun.com
Great piece by Matt Bracken on Gilman's Cyrus Jones. He too would be a great get for Edsall.
