Terps Land 11th Commitment: Local LB Shawn Petty

58286_mediumThat fourth rumored commitment finally came through yesterday: Shawn Petty, a QB/LB from Eleanor Roosevelt in Greenbelt, pulled the trigger on the Maryland offer he received a few days ago. There don't appear to be any articles on it yet, but he's listed as a commitment on both ESPN and Rivals.

At 6-3, 230, Petty would be a pretty big QB, though the size is also adequate for LB, both of which he's played in high school. He's unranked on all three services, and Maryland was his only offer, though he claimed interest from ECU, Pitt, N.C. State, and Rutgers, along with the less-believable Alabama and Florida.

His versatility is certainly intriguing, but I'm guessing he'll be a LB by default to start with. With two other QB commitments coming in, Maryland just can't afford to spend any more spots on a QB unless they're a four-star or something. That shouldn't be a problem for Petty, who tends to be listed as "athlete" and whose size is conducive to such a switch.

Good way to celebrate a holiday, no? Happy Fourth, everyone.
