By all accounts, a thriller of a game. I wasn't able to watch today, but anytime an unseeded team - granted, even one as good as Maryland - beats the top seed in overtime, it's generally must-watch lacrosse.
The Terrapins got six goals from six different players, including the game-winner in overtime from Grant Catalino, to upset once-beaten Syracuse, 6-5, and secure a spot in the Final Four in Baltimore.
There, the Terrapins will play 5th-seeded Duke, which defeated Notre Dame earlier today. Maryland's familiar with the Blue Devils, of course, having played them twice already this season and splitting the series. Duke took the first game 9-8, but the Terps won in the ACC Championship Game a few weeks ago, 11-9.
Being relatively green at lax "analysis", take what I'm about to say with a grain of salt, but ... does it seem like things are kind of coming together? Maryland just beat the best team in the country, bar none. The #2, #3, and #4 seeds are all gone, too. They next play Duke - a great team, but a team they just beat weeks ago - and after that get the winner of 6th-seeded UVA and 7th-seeded Denver. All good teams and I wouldn't be surprised or even particularly dissapointed if Maryland lost any of those games, but there is no mountain to climb in this group. That's even more true when you remember that Maryland is the de facto home team in this series and the fan support should be great.
Congratulations to the team. That Tillman hire looks better everyday. Now: buy tickets.
