Debbie Yow and Gary Williams are notorious foes. The two clashed time and time again in College Park, and their relationship is still a controversial one around these boards. Williams and Yow hated each other, which, given Gary's high standard in the coaching world, is probably more damaging to her than to him. In fact, when Yow and the Wuffies were getting stiff-armed by every candidate out there, we even wondered if maybe Gary was spreading the bad word about Dr. Yow.
We don't know if it's true, and in all honesty it's probably a stretch. But Debbie apparently disagrees. The fine folks at ACC Sports Journal asked Yow if her reputation of not getting along with coaches hurt her in the search. She came out with guns ablazing:

Other tweets have added in things like "I don't have a reputation in the coaching community. I have a reputation with Gary Williams," so none of this may be verbatim. Regardless, this appears to be the gist of it.
UPDATE: Terrapin Trail has a transcript of the quotes in question. It's very similar to all this, except with one extra little nugget: she hasn't ruled out legal action against Gary yet. Sure.
First off, if this is true, right on Gary. Right on. If it isn't, Yow just made a complete fool of herself.
Secondly, does no one else see the problem about her saying "Gary Williams sabotaged this search" with Gottfried right next to her? She's essentially saying that she couldn't get who she wanted, so she had to settle for this guy...who's sitting directly to her left. Ouch.
Anyway, she also claims that a national writer will be writing about it soon. Three guesses as to whom, and the first two don't count.
I've never really liked N.C. State. And I get the feeling they really don't like us. First the Greivis three, now this? This should make the annual showdowns with the Wuffies a lot more interesting.
Of course, the joke's still on her, because, well, she hired Mark Gottfried.
