Alright, I admit, I'm really late on this. But given that we've talked about rapping Terrapins multiple times in the past, it would be an oversight to leave out the latest release from everyone's favorite defensive-tackle-slash-rapper, The Franchyze.
You might know The Franchyze better by his real name: A.J. Francis. Or you might know him by his former pseudonym, Jack Diamond. All that really matters, though, is that Maryland's junior DT put out a remix of Black and Yellow named Fear the Turtle. And it's pretty sweet.
Never mind that it was recorded as a warm-up song for the women's lacrosse team; it's pretty much just awesome by itself. The best parts:
- "Then they saying that we going at a turtle's pace / But no mistake, man, it was the tortoise that won that race"
- "And those other rappers, I don't doubt them / Just they got less bars than Route 1" [Ed's note: ha.]
- "On the field against the mighty FSU / Take that S out, that's how we gonna step to you"
- "And don't think that we forgot about Virginia / Actually forget 'em, not good enough to remember" [Ed's note: burn!]
Now seems like as good a time as any to bring up that Francis, rapping skills aside, isn't currently the starter at DT; he's being beaten out by two-star redshirt freshman Andre Monroe, which is interesting to say the least.
Oh, and a request: I'm still waiting on that offensive line (Justin Lewis) vs. defensive line (A.J. Francis) rap battle. Why hasn't this taken place? Let's get on that, Edsall.
