Maryland Minute - 04.12.11 to 04.14.11 - Tucker Gets Back Into the Football Groove

Hoops over, 6-6 Tucker catching on as receiver for Terps - Washington Times
A nice story about CT here from Patrick Stevens. Nothing too ground-breaking, but Edsall seems open to giving him playing time if he deserves it. Also, he looks awesome in a helmet and pads.

Sorry we didn't get a MM up the last few days. There just wasn't that much going on that wasn't covered in a separate story. So, today's MM will cover the 12th-14th. Enjoy.

Cliff Tucker stands out at Maryland football practice - Baltimore Sun
Ben B. - Weird seeing Tucker in a football uniform. He's 6'6", so he's definitely got the height advantage. And it sounds like he could see the field this season. Should be interesting...

Cliff Tucker moves from hardwood to the gridiron - Terrapins Insider
Ben B. - Lot of news out there about CT's move to the gridiron. It's definitely an interesting story, if nothing else. And hey, it sounds like there's some actual on-the-field upside here.

"He understands and picks up stuff pretty well, in terms of the scheme, and he’s working very, very hard," Edsall said. "He’s got good size. He’s got good leaping ability. We have to get him back to catching that oblong ball instead of that round ball. You know, it’s just a little bit harder to catch. And just working with him, making sure he gets his hands away from his body."

That was one of the things that actually struck me about his HS video - he did a good job of catching the ball away from his body. He should pick that up soon. I know people think otherwise, but with the lack of known options at WR, I'm guessing Tucker will get serious playing time in a game.

Terrapins' Amato not hindered by youth - Washington Times
Ben B. - Wow, you have to love Niko's attitude. Flash.

"He called me up and said ‘How many state championships did you win? One? I just won my second’ and he hung up on me," Dougherty recalled this week. "Niko doesn’t just want to be the starting goalie for the Terps. He wants to be a first-team All-American and best goalie ever. I’ve always seen that in him."

He's only a freshman, so the numbers he's been putting up are fantastic. And hey, Hopkins game this weekend!

Kenny Tate on Lott Trophy Watch List
Ben B. Highly deserved. Waiting for the media hype to start up any day now.

Maryland hires Chief of Staff
Ben B. - Well that's interesting. I don't really understand exactly what his role is, but it's apparently a step-up from being the associate AD at Cal. If I had to guess, I'd say he'll basically be a backup AD, in a sense.

Oh, and nice tie, dude.

Nigel King still not cleared to practice - Terrapins Insider
Ben B. - Phooey. I was a big King fan and thought he had a chance to sneak into some PT this year, but it sounds like he's hitting some clearinghouse issues pretty hard. That generally means he'd have to sit out a year (and redshirt, so no huge deal) but it's not exactly good.
