As far as I can tell, all of Maryland's commitments' Letters of Intent are present and accounted for in the super-special Gossett fax machine. And, actually, it looks like there was an extra one mixed in there, too: the Terrapins received a commitment from Nashville punter Nathan Renfro today.
I had never heard Maryland in connection with Renfro, but the LOI is in and there's no going back now. Rivals listed a variety of low-major offers, and Matt Bracken said he had walk-on offers from both Maryland and FSU. The Terrapins offered a scholarship not long ago, and he pulled the trigger this morning.
I imagine Maryland offered after missing out on some local kickers, like DeMatha's Michael Branthover. Considering Travis Baltz manned both the punting and kicking duties for the Terrapins last year and has now graduated, Maryland was in pretty desperate need of a kicker/punter. I imagine junior Nick Ferrara will do most of the work, considering he did it his freshman year, but Renfro will compete and probably serve as a backup.
Elsewhere, there wasn't a lot of excitement on NSD. Darius Jennings went with Virginia, while Clemson picked up two more five-stars. Both UVA and Clemson loaded up, and Florida State had already pulled in a crazy class. The ACC is getting a lot more talented and it's happening fast. Oh, and James Franklin did a nice job with Vandy's class.
Hopefully 2012 goes a little better.
