Maryland Minute 12.9.11: Vellano Garners Walter Camp All-American Honors

Heads up: I updated the recruiting big boards yesterday. If you're so inclined, check them out on the widget on the left sidebar, or go straight from these links: 2012 basketball, 2012 football, 2013 basketball, 2013 football.

Now, on we go.

Joe Vellano named Walter Camp second-team All-American
Much deserved. And, given that three of the people ahead of him likely won't be in college football next year, he should be a frontrunner for many first-team All-American lists.

Maryland transfers might be sending troubling message - The Washington Post
My thoughts exactly. Not only do transfers hurt the current roster, but they hurt recruiting efforts. These guys all talk to each other, and when three locals transfer you can bet other high school players are hearing why. - BG

WBB: Lady Terps crush Delaware St., win by 75
No typo. 75 points. Largest margin of victory in school history.

Maryland in contact with JaKarr Sampson
As Charlotte has already pointed out in the FanPosts. Anyway, Sampson would be a fantastic get at this point: extremely athletic, great defender. Won't score many points, but ... am I crazy for thinking this team is being built around a potential Harrison twins commitment? Get the points from Andrew and Faust, let everyone else play lockdown defense and pitch in a few a game.

Maryland baseball announces fall signees, includes four top-200 players
I don't really follow baseball recruiting, but Bakich seems pretty psyched about it, so that's good.

Megan Frazer Wins Player of the Year
I assume you guys all know that Megan Frazer is a field hockey player. I feel like a Terp wins this thing every year. Anyway, congrats to Megan. - BG

Maryland basketball holds on to beat Mount St. Mary’s - The Washington Post
Nice roundup from Liz Clarke if you're looking for more coverage from the game the other night. Turgeon has this to say: "We’re not a bad team," Turgeon said, "but we’re not guarding. If you guard, the game isn’t close. We’ve got to figure out as a coaching staff how to teach these guys to guard better. . . . When things start to go bad, we all hang our heads." - BG

DOD: Andrew Harrison finishes in traffic at the rim
Earns BallIsLife's Dunk of the Day. For the recruitniks out there.
