Just about the only damper from the gigantic Morgan State victory were the injuries that both of Maryland's backup QBs, Danny O'Brien and C.J. Brown, sustained. Both were serious enough that they were kept out of the game in favor of starter (for now) Jamarr Robinson in the fourth quarter.
And from the post-game news conference comes the quick news: C.J. Brown has broken his collarbone and will be eight weeks (or eight months, depending on the tweeter). More to the point, Danny O'Brien, who made a strong case for a QB controversy with a strong performance tonight, sprained his ankle, but the severity is unknown right now.
He was able to walk on it shortly after the injury, which bodes well. It clearly wasn't serious enough for him to be taken to the locker room, and that's good news. But sprained ankles can be quick recoveries or they can linger for weeks. If it does linger, that could rule him out for the West Virginia game next week. That's big; even if he didn't start, which was a long shot, he'd be waiting in the wings should Robinson fail to impress.
Meantime, if O'Brien's injury is long-term, true freshmen Tyler Smith or Devin Burns better get ready.
[Update by Ben Broman, 09/11/10 11:10 PM EDT - We're good: O'Brien should be healthy by West Virginia. And so the QB controversy begins.]
