Maryland Minute - 08.02.10 - Recruiting News Aplenty

Lots of stuff going on related to both football and basketball recruiting, so lets jump right in...

Harkless Trims List to Eight, Maryland Makes It
Yessir.

The 6-foot-8 Queens, N.Y. native wrote on Twitter he’s considering the following schools after spending next year at South Kent (Conn.): St. John’s, Maryland, Florida, N.C. State, Cincinnati, Rutgers, Arizona and Memphis.

I asked Harkless if that means UConn is definitely out and he said, "Yes."

I thought UConn was one of the more dangerous teams for his services. I wouldn't be surprised if it came down to SJU, Maryland, and Florida. Gonna be a heck of a recruitment, hopefully Sterling Gibbs can make a difference. -BB

My take - Go get'em, Sterling.

Recruiting Report: Terps DE recruit Dontez Tyler 'a gem' for UM
As Bracken said on Twitter, sounds like a high-reward, low-risk type of commitment. May not be a star, but what's the worst that could happen? -BB

"I was talking to him the other day, and I think the sky’s the limit," Privott said. "As a North Carolina guy who didn’t get much attention from schools in North Carolina, I just think he’s a gem. I think Maryland got a gem. I think he’s really going to do well for us this year and have a great college career at Maryland as well."

Scout: July's Over, Now Real Race Begins
This article really makes me think that unless Nick Faust has picked up a major offer - think Duke, UNC, UCLA, etc. - that we just don't know about, that he'll be committing soon. We know he likes Maryland and Marquette, and he's already visited both. Just a matter of time. Telep seems to indicate that commitments will start rolling in soon. -BB

My take - Please, go get him Gary.

Terp Target Rod Days Commits to UCF
You never like seeing a guy commit elsewhere, but it could be worse than Days. There are quite a few wing targets ahead of him on the radar - Nick Faust, Maurice Harkless, Dorian Finney-Smith, LaQuinton Ross - and I liked Devin Langford almost as much as Days. He's a big commitment for UCF, but you can't take him at Maryland just yet with so many other targets on the board. -BB

PSA: If You Haven't Already, Vote for the TT Big Board!
If you haven't voted yet, be sure to go ahead and give it a whirl. We want as many repsonses as we can get.

Glad the students are still behind the team...at least the ones they talked to. Hopefully they'll show up in support...

Maryland's Stocked Fridge: No. 29 Lance Ball - D1scourse.com
Lance Ball was pretty good when he was here...

4 Lady Terps Land on USA Team | Terp Talk - Maryland Sports
Maryland landed two current and two former players on the 2010-11 U.S. senior women's national lacrosse team. Thanks to Bruce at Terp Talk for picking up on this.
