Da'Rel Scott Named to Doak Walker Award Watch List

Don't ever say Maryland doesn't have talent. Torrey Smith has already cracked award two watch lists, and both Alex Wujciak and Adrian Moten have seen their names on a few, too. Da'Rel Scott decided to join the watch list party himself, as he was one of the names on the Doak Walker Award watch list announced this afternoon.

This is Scott's third consecutive year on the list, which is pretty amazing considering how little time he saw his freshman year. He's never come close to winning it and probably won't this year without a shockingly good season (especially considering Maryland's RB depth), but simply to be on the watch list so many times is a bit of an honor in and of itself.

Not that it's all that hard; around 50 names are on all the award watch lists (49 on this one), which is standard procedure but also makes for a lot of posts like this, all around the internet, on semi-obscure running backs. For the record, Smith joins four other ACC backs, including Montel Harris (BC), Anthony Allen (GT), Ryan Williams (VT), Darren Evans (VT), and I'd say that Williams is the only one with a legitimate chance of sniffing the trophy.

But enough pessimism; Scott is at the very least on the watch list, which I suppose is good news. And it's also quite a few watch list appearances for the Terps, which is a little impressive as well, considering their recent record. Anyway, congrats to Scott, and hopefully he can at least make the next cut (whatever that happens to be).
