Maryland Minute 5.27.10 - DHB Impressing Teammates, Coaches

How's DHB's dust taste, #4!?

Heyward-Bey on the Rise

Via Contra Costa Times:

"I’ve seen how far we’ve come as an offense, and we’re much better and guys are developing," tight end Zach Miller said. "I mean, just watching him, Heyward-Bey has been phenomenal out here. He’s matured a lot and I’m really looking forward to seeing what kind of season he’s going to have." Indeed, Heyward-Bey was the best receiver on the field Wednesday (Chaz Schilens remains a spectator recovering from foot surgery). He caught everything thrown his way and if he even bobbled the ball once, I didn’t see it."

The article is filled with more DHB praise from teammates and coaches. Can't hurt to have someone other than Jamarcus Russell throwing you the ball, as well.

Cottle's Colleagues Mystified by His Firing

Probably shouldn't be surprising that a lot of lacrosse coaches are standing up for Cottle, and they should be protecting their profession. That said, how many of them would turn down the job if Maryland offered? Probably all but five (Starsia, Tierney, Pietremala, Desko, and Bates...maybe Tambroni). - BB

Six Lax Terps Named USILA All-Americans

None in the first team, one in the second, two in the third, and three as honorable mentions. - BB

Cyrus Kouandjio Named The Sporting News' #1 Player

There's probably no shot at Cyrus, the OT from DeMatha, but it's still worth mentioning that The Sporting News just named him their #1 player in 2011...overall. He has offers from basically everyone, which means its time for James Franklin to earn his paycheck. Oh, and according to him he has no idea where he wants to go. - BB

The ACC Needs To Strike First in Expansion By Carving Up the Big East!

Bleacher Report gives their take on ACC expansion, saying the conference better act first and argues they're in the best position to do so. Kind of summarizes a lot of what Ben G., Ben B. and I have been saying for a while (along with the rest of the world). - DT

Terps one of ACC's 'Most Likely Losers' in Week 1 - Dinich

"You would think Maryland would be favored to win all of its in-state matchups, but that probably won’t be the case in this game. Navy was a 10-win team last year and narrowly missed a chance to beat the Terps the last time these programs met."

We usually don't fare well against spread offenses with running quarterbacks. As much as it pains me, I might agree with Dinich on this one.
