Maryland Minute 11.19.10 - Notes from Coaches vs. Cancer Classic

Good, Bad Discoveries from NYC - Seth Davis
Maryland's good: they're tough and gritty. Their bad: they don't play offense.

Terps prove they can play with anyone, just about - Jeff Goodman
Some nice national coverage for the Terps. Gotta love this Jordan quote:

"I truly believe that if they’re the number four or five team in the country, then we’re number four or five," Williams said. ``We know we can play with anyone."

Dino Gregory is Real: Illinois +/- - D1scourse
Dino was +12, the best on the team. The only other player in the positive was Pe'Shon Howard. Weijs was -7. Interesting to me: Padge is -9 on the season, which is easily the worst on the team. Not a perfect stat, but interesting to see.

Florida State focused on Maryland, but N.C. State-UNC hard to ignore - Orlando Sentinel
A little bit of other-game-watching might throw them off. If N.C. State wins, maybe they come out a little flat.

Mike Wise - Maryland should be ashamed for trying to get rid of Friedgen
Seriously? He went 2-10 and over the past six years or so Maryland's been average. I'm not ignoring that Maryland's had a great comeback this year, but Mack Brown is about to be fired in Texas for going 6-6 (or, at the worst, 4-8). Going 2-10 is grounds for dismissal anywhere. Friedgen should be grateful for a second chance, not the other way around.

Mike Farrell Expecting Big Maryland Recruiting Finish
Good news.

I expect Maryland to close on a few top guys between now and National Signing Day, mainly Darius Jennings and possibly pull a surprise for Blake Countess, Darian Cooper, Travis Hughes or Brandon Clemons. But the real effect of this year will be felt next recruiting year now that coaching stability has returned. Maryland is winning again and the staff has been very aggressive in offering 2012 prospects. The Terps still need to finish strong this year, but whatever happens, you'll see next year get off to a better start than 2011.

Acie Law may be on way out in Memphis | ProBasketballTalk
And Greivis Vasquez moves up in the rotation.

Recruiting Report: Weekly recruiting roundup
You know the drill. Apparently Maryland's offered Michael Branthover, DeMatha's kicker and one of the better kicking prospects out of the DC area in awhile. With Travis Baltz graduating next year and Nick Ferrara being as iffy as he's been this year, Branthover would be a nice pickup.
