Quick Thoughts

Where was this team last week? There was an interesting article this week in one of the area papers (can't remember which) in which they talked to Terps players about their consistancy. Apparently at the beginning of the season, Fridge asked every player to describe Maryland's biggest weakness and the overwhelming response was consistency.  I don't know if that is good or bad, but at least they realize it's a problem.  Hopefully they can address said problem next week against Eastern Michigan.

Some additional thoughts to supplement Ben's post -

1. The defense needs to stop playing prevent D when we're up.  Realistically, this game shouldn't have been close but in the 4th quarter, up 21-6, Maryland kept sending just 3 defensive linemen and dropping another back into coverage.  Cal picked this defense apart, scoring 3 time in just 7 minutes in the 4th quarter, making game in which Maryland dominated, seem close. Why the Terps didn't stick with the same D that held Cal to 6 points going into the 4th quarter is beyond me, but it's something that needs to be changed.

2. Turner looked great - no INTS, 2 TDs, managed the West Coast offense well.

3. Maryland shut down Best, the stud running back on Cal. They also got to the flats fast to prevent any short, screen passes from developing. Most of Cal's yards came in the 4th when the Terps were dropped back and letting Cal rack up yards against the previously mentioned prevent D.

We'll have some more detailed analysis later tonight and into tomorrow. Tune back often.  Until then, enjoy this sweet victory!
