Embarrassment

That's it. That's the title. Your University of Maryland Terrapins just lost to a hated rival by more than 25 points.

It's just sad.

I'm not going to write about it, because you don't want to read about it. I don't want to read or write about it. I want to go into a shell until it's all forgotten.

Mark my words, though: this team isn't this bad, the same way the team isn't as good as they played against Michigan State. I will say that it's closer to Georgetown than Michigan State, but not every game will be played like this.

This game could very well make Gary retire. I'm not exactly hoping for it - I still like Gary, even though he doesn't recruit at all, and he had done a lot for the program. But man - after a loss like this, I wouldn't want to be coaching anymore.

I don't know what it'll do for Gary's job security. A loss like this, combined with 3 NIT appearances in 4 years, might mean that this is the last year he has to do something (ie, make the NCAAs and seriously compete).

Also, don't put all the blame on Gary for not recruiting a solid big man. He did - Terrence Jennings, Ken Bowman, and Gus Gilchrist were all committed here at one point remember. This is as much on the administration as it is on the coach.

The impact this'll have on recruiting is huge, too. As if Maryland wasn't already losing enough recruits to GTown as it was....

There's not a lot of talent on the team. It's been acknowledged. It's a team of low four star, mid three star, and high two star player. The ceiling is only so high. They'll overperform, though, because that's what Gary does, and be a bubble team for the NCAAs. Or maybe Gary lost his touch, they'll perform on par, and be an NIT bubble team. Those are the options. It'll be rough, either way.
