Time to move on...at this point, I just want to hear that Faust is coming here before I hear/get caught up in anything else. Props to TerpMasterX for getting this up as a fanshot.
It's official - Pankey committed to the Terps this afternoon. Good get for Gary. Now we just need to land Harris and we'll be set with a top 10 class. We'll have more up on Pankey later today.
Yes, it's only a teaser, but it's pretty revealing: "2011 hoops prospect Quinn Cook is interested in the Terps but has not heard from them." Another quote (got this from the Google News snippet - I don't have a Scout subscription): "But one of the biggest surprises is the school that isn't recruiting him, local school Maryland. 'He likes Maryland but they aren't recruiting him.'" I'd like to be recruiting him, at this point, but is it a big deal? Not really. QC is, in all likelihood, a long shot. I'm assuming that Gary and the staff felt him out, decided we don't have a great shot, and moved on to Cezar Guerrero (hopefully) and Shannon Scott. I'd still like to be showing him token interest, but I don't want the staff to put too much into him if he's not coming.
You already knew about the live updates from Inside MD Sports via Twitter, but NBE Basketball Report is rolling them out too (not via Twitter). Definitely worth checking out. FWIW, Tobias Harris is #3 in points and Terrence Jones is #2 in rebounds.
It appears that nothing's changed since a few weeks ago, when Mychal Parker said the Terps led for his services after the elite camp. He says that his list is, in order, Maryland, Virginia, Miami, and Kentucky. If UVA is our biggest competition, I feel pretty confident.
Scout has now updated their rankings for the 2010 year, and a few Terp targets are waaay up there. The biggest jump was for Will Barton, who went from high four star guy to can't miss stud - Barton is now the #1 SG in the nation, and the #10 player overall. Roscoe Smith is #17 overall, Tobias Harris is #31, and Mychal Parker is #32. Terp commit Terrance Ross is #68, which, if you talk to knowledgeable basketball people, is way too low for someone of his caliber.
And when I say really hard, I mean really hard. Gary & Co. will be in Brooklyn "four or five" more times in the next 21 days. Gary's really betting the house on this guy.
He didn't exactly rip the rim down, or completely shatter it, but it's better than nothing. Good work Jordan.
"After a visit to the University of Maryland this past weekend, Lance Stephenson may be playing basketball next season in the Atlantic Coast Conference." I may just have to get a Rivals subscription.
