Pre Signing Day: Maryland Gains Another 2010 Commit, Massachusetts S Rodman Noel

It's a "soft commit" dependent on his SAT scores. Interesting. Probably a result of Don Brown's Massachusetts connects. Wonder if that was in reaction to Tony Grimes. Still waiting on Brandon Coleman and Bjoern Werner.

Must-read here from Bracken. Extremely, extremely encouraging stuff.

Tony Grimes Picks Ole Miss

That kind of sucks. Would've been a great addition to the secondary, fit Brown's defense perfectly. Brandon Coleman, Bjoern Werner, or bust.

The Scarlet Knights now lead solidly for wide receiver Brandon Coleman over Syracuse and Maryland. "It’s just a comfort level I have with Rutgers," Coleman said. "I like everything about them."

Scout, via Matt Bracken. This isn't a Rutgers writer, either - he's national. Don't know how correct it is, but it's not a good sign.

Desmond Kearse went from an unknown virtual non-entity - his best offer was from Middle Tennessee State - to a somewhat hot commodity really quickly. Like, within a day quickly. First up, his...

Maryland Grabs Another Floridian Commitment, Desmond Kearse

Maryland's class is seriously winding down. They picked up a rather unexpected commitment today from the Sunshine State.

It was not a good year for the Terrapins, who were able to notch only two wins. While their season didn't help to build any momentum on the recruiting trail, Maryland has landed some good prospects including the recently-added Javarie Johnson (Washington D.C. / Dunbar) who decommitted from Miami to join the Terps class. Johnson is an athletic prospect who could offer Maryland some options in how they use him on defense and should be able to contribute quickly as a pass-rusher. A strength of this class is the defensive line because they have several good prospects committed, in addition to Johnson, including Andre Monroe (Washington D.C. / Saint Johns College) -- an undersized, but quick and active defensive tackle. Top prospect: A huge get for Maryland was quarterback Tyler Smith (Easton, Pa. / Wilson Area), who is the No. 8 ranked quarterback. He has a good frame which he needs to keep developing as well as a rocket arm and deceptively good athleticism. His delivery is compact and very quick. Plus, he is also is a good ballhandler. Smith has a lot of ability and upside and could become the face of this offense over the next few seasons. Don't be surprised if: Smith contends for the starting quarterback position this fall. The Terrapins have several young quarterbacks on the roster, but Smith will arguably be the most talented and could push the rest of the pack.

ESPN on Maryland's Recruiting Class. They like Tyler Smith a lot, obviously, and I wouldn't be surprised to see him challenge for the starting spot, just as they say. I'll go over this once the class is really over, but how this class finished has given me hope in these coaches. Considering they're also in great shape with Blake Countess and have been in contact with Darius Jennings a lot, I'm somewhat optimistic about 2011, too. Just need Grimes and Coleman to finish it off.
