Clemson's Milton Jennings to play on Tuesday vs. Maryland

Won't start, but he'll play. He was previous indefinitely suspended for academic reasons, but apparently Brad Brownell is pulling an Edsall here.

It'll make things a good bit tougher. Jennings is 6-9 and very athletic; having him in the game instead of Bryan Narcisse will do wonders for Clemson's post game. Hopefully he's a bit raw coming back.

Former Maryland verbal commit Dallas Griffiths, a linebacker from Florida, is headed to Liberty. The Flames were among his finalists, so this isn't a huge shocker. He's a three-star inside linebacker, however, so to see him go to the FCS level is a little bit of a surprise. Good job by new coach Turner Gill. H/T to @JSTerp

NSD 2012 Required Reading: Dr. Saturday breaks down recruiting rankings

You know it happens every time the recruiting discussion heats up. Someone comes in and says "I'm new to this, how reliable are recruiting rankings?" And a fierce debate crops up about it, usually consisting of "Joe Vellano was a two-star!" "Vernon Davis was a four-star!" It's all very tedious.

Matt Hinton over at Doc Saturday does a fantastic job in breaking down the stats behind recruiting rankings and what they lead to. His verdict: namely, the better the ranking, the better the player tends to be. Are there exceptions? Of course. But that's partially because two- and three-star players make up 85% of all recruits. Look at the odds to become an All-American by ranking for the best illustration of the accuracy of rankings.

One thing that can never be pointed out enough and some people lose sight of: these players aren't good because they're ranked high. They're ranked high because they're good. The high ranking doesn't make someone become an All-American; their skillset does. And usually, but not always, that skillset is identified by guys like Mike Farrell and Tom Luginbill. It's not perfect and that doesn't mean you should turn your back on a three-star or anything like that, but it does mean that there is a generally good indicator of overall quality when you look at the star rankings of an entire class.

Recruiting stuff has already picked up, and it'll only get heavier as we inch closer to Wednesday. Arm yourselves, with knowledge.

#13 Terps Wrestling Falls to #22 Cavaliers

The 13th-ranked Maryland wrestling team lost its first dual meet of the season to 22nd-ranked Virginia Sunday at Memorial Gymnasium. The Cavaliers won six-of-10 bouts to post a 22-14 victory.

The Terps (13-1, 3-1 ACC) won two bouts by major decision and registered 10 takedowns in the match. Second-ranked Josh Asper remained unbeaten and improved his record to 22-0.

"This was a tough loss," said head coach Kerry McCoy. "Virginia wrestled well, and I give them a lot of credit. We will learn from it and get better."
