Maryland football starts its season in 90 days. Until then, we're profiling the entire roster.
Kenneth Goins Jr., fullback
Height: 5'9
Weight: 233 pounds
Year: Senior
High school: Gilman School (Md.)
How Goins got to College Park
Goins was a stellar two-way player at Gilman. The 247Sports Composite placed him 50th nationally among running backs, and ESPN pegged him as the country's No. 90 outside linebacker. Those services ranked him as the No. 21 and No. 18 player in Maryland, respectively. He was a consensus all-state performer in his senior season, which saw him named the All-Met Defensive Player of the Year by the Baltimore Sun.
Goins chose Maryland over East Carolina, Syracuse and Tulane. He redshirted his first year, but has been productive ever since.
A career highlight so far, from three durable seasons
He's played in all 38 of Maryland's games, making seven starts. He has four career receiving touchdowns and rushed for his first score last fall at Rutgers. It was pretty cool.
2016 prospectus
Goins is Maryland's top fullback, and while that doesn't figure to translate into a big role in a fast-paced offense, there should be instances in which he's just the right piece. He'll probably get some looks out of the backfield, especially in the red zone.
What a dream season might look like
Goins throws a lot of blocks for Terrapin runners, while making the most of his own carries and hauling in some big-time receptions.
Next in the series ...
Our next subject was planning on being a Tiger this fall, but ultimately chose to join the Terps instead.
