Promised land and ideal relationship with WCAC/MIAA?

Taking stock of the 2017 recruiting class, how much further can Maryland realistically recruit the local area? Even if Terps had Alabama's success, local kids would still be tempted to explore Ohio State and "points north." Even Alabama kids commit to Auburn and Ohio kids commit to Ann Arbor.

Offensively, the Terps outperformed when it came to recruiting. The only real tease was Ashley who was previously committed when he arrived. The Terps filled one need at QB and added someone that the press believes is a gamer.

Defensively, it's a bit more an empty slate. TCF, CY, KW, JP, and I'm sure I''m forgetting one or more two Going four for four is unrealistic as existing relationships (siblings) and preference for an area of the country may weigh in.

I think the Terps are about two highly acclaimed defensive picks from reaching the ceiling in the area. Lo was unheralded and became a top performer and I think the record will show that half the big recruits that end up in Columbus or State College don't pan out while College Park has a higher success rate even with fewer.

The MIAA is down, but St. Frances is putting something interesting together. They've never offer the draw of Gilman academics but they'll never face the restrictions imposed by Gilman either. McDonogh can be interesting, and others on this board have talked about Loyola and Calvert Hall returning to their winning ways with some recent changes. Even MSJ has turned a corner. The short answer is that the MIAA is good for 3-5 recruits/year, the WCAC is good for 6 candidates/year, which means that 50% of the Terps recruiting needs can be harvested from 12 schools within 60 miles of campus. Throw in Riverdale, and the occasional Avalon/Landon/Bullis anomaly, and Terps are in fat city without having to settle for second tier players from Florida and Georgia.

While I think this year revealed an overperformance ability to recruit on offense and underperforming ability to recruit on defense, there's not a whole lot more to be achieved. Terps felt confident enough to look past some of the top MPSSAA talent whereas last year, they took a flyer on Jake Funk. There's some bread-and-butter talent that would mature at least as well what the Terps have been forced to rely upon this year.

A win over PSU, OSU or UM gets the Terps across the finish line on defense.
