In many ways, Adam McLean has been the face of Maryland's Class of 2015. He chose the Terrapins after previously being committed to Big Ten rival Penn State, he's the No. 2 player in the state of Maryland, and he's been an outspoken leader in the #DMVtoUMD movement. On Wednesday, he officially became a Terp.
The four-star defensive tackle from Quince Orchard High School in Gaithersburg signed his National Letter of Intent and will play for the Terrapins in 2015. The 6-foot-2, 290-pound defensive linemen is the No. 14 tackle in the nation and can be an immediate contributor at UMD—if he's healthy. McLean tore his ACL during his senior year at Quince Orchard and had surgery in January. The injury limited him to 13 tackles and a half sack in six games as a senior and kept him out of the Under Armour All-America Game.
Still, McLean hopes to be ready for the start of the season and hopes to have an impressive freshman class around him. McLean projects as more of an end in the Terps' 3-4 defense, but could end up playing tackle.
In all likelihood, McLean will contribute next season as at least a run-stopping defensive end and a potential starter anywhere on the defensive line. All three starters were seniors last year and McLean has the combination of size and athleticism to either play on the end or at nose tackle.
