MD Baseball: Former Terp Jimmy Reed promoted to Class AA Springfield Cardinals

Maryland's Friday night pitcher from the 2013 team, Jimmy Reed, has made great strides in a little over one year in the minor leagues. Drafted in the sixth round by the St. Louis Cardinals last year, Reed went 3 - 2 in the NY-Penn Rookie League. Reed started out 2014 pitching for the Class A Peoria team where he went 3 - 3. He then got promoted to the Class A Advanced Palm Beach Cardinals. It was in Palm Beach where Reed started to excel. He went 4 - 0 with 2.57 ERA, striking out 21 while walking only one batter in 35 innings.

I've just received word that Reed has been promoted to the Class AA Springfield Cardinals. It's not unusual for a pitcher to go from AA ball to the major leagues.

All the best to the talented southpaw from Gaithersburg.
