With the great news of Carter committing today and Henderson soon on the way (hopefully) I took a look at the scholarship chart for next season. At this point, if Henderson shocks us and does not end up a terp, the potential that the last roster spot gets filled by a grad transfer still seems slim to none. Just in the name of balance, I assume the back-up plan would be someone in the mold of Andrew White (I have not heard too many other names for the last spot). Regardless, with all 5 freshman officially on campus, it seems like the roster is set for who will see court time next season. So how do you see the starting lineup actually shaking out? Obviously Dez is a lock, and with no one else walking through the door it looks more and more like Melo will have the ball in his hands seemingly at all times. Do you put Smotrycz and Layman in the same category? If those two start are we gonna see Dodd start at Center to provide rim protection or will one of the freshman bigs take over? Can a Smotrycz and Graham starting front court survive in conference play?
I think it is going to be very hard for Turg to put immediate faith in any of the other freshman if he does not have to so I think Melo, Dez, Layman, Smotrycz and Dodd start the year. But, I am actually personally very high on Dion Wiley and think that he has the body and maturity to make an immediate impact. By conference play I could see him overtaking Layman’s spot in the starting rotation.
