High School Highlights:

How'd He Get to College Park?

Maryland was the first school to offer Johnson and he committed to Maryland just a few minutes later. His head coach in high school was killed in a tragic accident and Johnson turned into a player-coach of sorts in the process. Pete did a great job talking about that in last year's PiT on Johnson.

Profiling the entire team

Johnson redshirted his first year in College Park but quickly became a contributor the following season on both defense and special teams. By 2012, he'd become a starter and led the team in pass break ups. Last season, many expected Johnson to have a great junior season, but a toe injury forced him to miss all but two games of the season.

Nickname:

J.J.

Career Highlight:

He had two dominant games his sophomore year, recording seven tackles against both William & Mary and N.C. State.

Dream Season:

Johnson is fully recovered from his toe injury and revert back to his 2012 form, becoming the #1 corner for Maryland during their first B1G season.

2014 Prospectus:

The expectations for Johnson were high heading into 2013. After a fantastic sophomore season that saw him finish with 43 tackles, many expected Johnson to anchor Maryland's secondary during their final ACC season. Unfortunately for the Terps, Unfortunately for Johnson, a fractured toe during their opening game win over FIU kept Johnson on the sideline for most of the 2013 season.

Johnson did make a brief appearance during Maryland's final regular season game against N.C. State, but didn't play in the bowl game against Marshall.

Johnson is expected to reclaim his starting spot among Maryland's defensive backs, providing them with some much needed depth at the defensive back position. While he was listed as a co-starter with Alvin Hill on the Spring depth chart, it's widely expected that as Johnson continues to recover from injury, he'll reclaim that starting spot as well.

Up Next:

Our next player comes from a village with no electricity or indoor plumbing and he touched a football for the first time just three years ago.
